Troubleshooting OpenVPN
If you cannot connect to the OpenVPN and are receiving the following error
TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds”
Please see https://openvpn.net/faq/tls-error-tls-key-negotiation-failed-to-occur-within-60-seconds-check-your-network-connectivity/ for a resolution.
If you can connect but cannot ping any hosts on the internal network and are using Windows Vista or above, please disable IPv6 on the TAP-Win32 interface.
You can do this by:
- Click Start
- Type “ncpa.cpl”
- Right click the TAP-Win32 interface and select properties
- Uncheck “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)” as per this
Then attempt to re-connect to the VPN.
The requested operation requires elevation. ERROR: Windows route add command failed [adaptive]: returned error code 1 Initialization Sequence Completed
When using Windows Vista or higher, you must run OpenVPN as an administrator. Running it as a non-privileged user will cause the above error and prevent the routes being correctly added to your computer.
! When using Windows – ensure that OpenVPN has been “Run as Administrator”
